What this role actually involves

A Beat Forest Officer is a uniformed, protective field enforcement officer tasked with securing wildlife habitats, preventing eco-crimes, and maintaining the ecological integrity of state forest zones. Recruitment is managed district-wise.

Working under the Section Forest Officer and Range Forest Officer, duties center on territorial protection and conservation: anti-poaching foot patrols against illegal logging, poaching, sand mining, and encroachment; forest fire management as the immediate ground responder; wildlife conflict mitigation and animal rescue; and registering forest offense cases under the Kerala Forest Act.

Scale of pay: ₹27,900 to ₹63,700. Gross entry emoluments, including uniform maintenance, hill-tract or risk allowances, DA, and HRA, are roughly ₹41,000 to ₹44,000 per month.

Height and chest measurements, plus a timed endurance run

Male candidates: minimum height 168 cm (160 cm SC/ST), chest 81 cm with 5 cm expansion, must run 2 km within 13 minutes. Female candidates: minimum height 157 cm (150 cm SC/ST), must run 2 km within 19 minutes.
