What this role actually involves

The Sub Inspector of Police recruitment is one of Kerala's most competitive uniformed service exams, run across three stages: a qualifying prelims, a 100 mark mains, and a one star Physical Efficiency Test requiring a pass in at least 5 of 8 events.

Recruitment spans three categories: open market graduates aged 20 to 31, ministerial wing staff in Police, Vigilance, or Fingerprint Bureau up to age 36, and serving Police Constables and Head Constables who have completed probation, also up to age 36.

Stage 1: Degree Level Common Preliminary Examination

Except for Special Topics, every other section follows the same syllabus as the Degree Level Prelims program.

Candidates must pass a minimum of 5 of 8 events. Physical standards must be verified independently before enrollment.

  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs15 to 20 Marks

    Indian history, geography, and economics; Kerala governance; life science, public health, and current developments.

  • Arithmetic and Mental Ability10 to 20 Marks

    Quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning; numerical series, coding and decoding, and direction tests.

  • Language Proficiency20 to 30 Marks

    General English grammar and sentence correction; regional language, Malayalam, Tamil, or Kannada.

  • Special Topics, Core Duty Laws45 Marks

    Indian Constitution; civil rights and human rights; cyber laws; basic penal elements.
